This paper presents an empirical analysis of internation migration to Italy. We used a panel data set that includes 150 countries. Information by country of origin is available for a five-year-period, 1998-2002. According to theoretical predictions, we tested some economic and social characteristics of the country of origin as determinants of migration flows. On the whole the results for Italy are consistent with empirical studies about other countries.
